Attributes

Attributes are traits that describe your character's basic potential. MET system uses an open-end scale to gauge the relative strength to a character's body, personality and intellect. Rather than the numeric values of the tabletop systems. MET uses these adjectives to express your character in descriptive means. While any such labels could be used, it is easier to have commonly known and used adjectives that give the characters and players understanding of the nature of the challenge or motion at hand. 

Selecting Traits: 

The first step in assigning and selecting traits is to work out which catagory of Attributes is the most important to your character's concept. For some a physical presence is held more than the mental strength of mind. To others a social presence is far more important than either. Work out which would be the most important to your character before proceeding. Work out in which order of importance the three catagories stand for your character's working concept.

 

 

Once you have placed the three catagories in order for your concept, you now must select the specific traits that describe your character in each of these areas. For now we are only working with the positive qualities of a character. Assign 7 traits for your primary chosen catagory, 5 for your secondary and 3 for your tertiary catagory. 

When building your character, select attributes that are based on your inital concept. While some people chose traits based on their number-crunching qualities. This will rob you of playing an in-depth and balanced character and individual. 

 

 

Choose your attributes from the provided lists here and build your character with these adjectives carefully. Remember that some words mean for different activties, for example you may use Agile and Savage for different circumstances, it is a good idea to have a wide spread of traits, but you may take multiples of each trait if they suit your character better in that sense. 

 

 

Negative Attributes:

In addition to the positive attributes you may also notice the lists below of the Negative traits.Your character may also have less desirable traits about them. These are reffered

 

 to as the negative traits and are chosen in the same catagories as above with the normal attributes selection. Each Negative allows for the player to select an additional Postive Attribute. It does not matter in which catagory (or catagories) these Negative Traits apply to. Though it is not advised for a character to have more than 3 in one catagory. The maximum you are permitted to take in general over the three catagories is 5. Of course you are under no obligation to take any at all. But as a warning, if you do take the negative traits you will be expected to role play them effectively. 

 

Bidding traits:

Attribute traits are used in a descriptive manner when initating a challenge. While players can normally think of plenty of ways to use their traits in a variety of situations and challenges, it is important to remember than not all traits are acceptable for some challenges. 

 

For example if your character initates a challenge to kick or punch someone in an attack, the trait "Resiliant" would not be an acceptable trait whereas "Brutal" or "Fierce" would be morean appropriate for such an action. Most challenges are over seen by a Storyteller or "ST". The ST will determine whether of not the trait you bid is appropriate for the challenge. If not they will ask for you to bid another instead. Of course if your

opponent bids a trait you strongly feel is inappropriate, you need only speak to your overseeing ST.

 

Simplified Bidding:

For simplicity's sake, a Storyteller may wish to ignore the specific traits. Sometimes they may call for simply a "Physical Challenge" in which they will allow for any trait to be used. If you are not sure if you are allowed any trait for a specific challenge then it is always better to ask the ST beforehand. 

 

So carefully choose from the lists provided when you are making your basic sheet and also in order to buy your attributes with XP as your character progresses throughout the chronicle.

Aggressive, Agile, Athletic, Brawny, Brutal, Deadly, Dexterous, Enduring, Energetic, Ferocious, Fierce, Graceful, Lithe, Nimble, Quick, Resilient, Robust, Rugged, Savage, Stalwart.

 

Negative Physical Attributes:

Clumsy, Cowardly, Decrepit, Delicate, Docile, Flabby, Frail, Lame, Lethargic, Puny, Sickly, Slow, Soft.

Mental Attributes: 

Alert, Analytical, Astute, Attentive, Calm, Clever, Creative, Cunning, Dedicated, Depraved, Determined, Discerning, Disciplined, Flexible, Focused, Inhumane, Insidious, Insightful, Intuitive, Knowledgeable, Observant, Patient, Rational, Reflective, Shrewd, Vigilant, Wily, Wise

 

Negative Mental Attributes:

Deceitful, Forgetful, Gullible, Ignorant, Impatient, Oblivious, Predictable, Shortsighted, Squeamish, Submissive, Unstable, Violent, Warped, Witless

Social Attributes: 

Alluring, Beguiling, Callous, Charismatic, Charming, Commanding, Cruel, Dignified, Diplomatic, Elegant, Eloquent, Empathetic, Expressive, Fearsome, Genial, Gorgeous, Ingratiating, Intense, Intimidating, Magnetic, Manipulative, Persuasive, Seductive, Threatening, Witty.

 

Negative Social Attributes:

Bestial, Condescending, Dull, Eerie, Empathetic, Feral, Ghastly, Haggard, Kind, Meek, Naive, Obnoxious, Repugnant**, Scarred, Shy, Tactless, Untrustworthy
